About The Artist
Daubigny started painting flowering orchards circa 1857, and continued this practice nearly every spring. He became an inspiration to Monet, who ended up painting his own version of blossoming fruit tress in 1873 as well. Daubigny's subject matter was described as "pieces of nature cut out and set into golden frames" by the critic Thèophile Gautier.
